The Curtain Formula

The Curtain Formula

Four numbers. No caveats.

Rod Height Measure the gap between your window frame and the ceiling. Divide by 2. Hang the rod there.

  • Example: 24" gap → hang rod 12" above the frame.
  • Minimum 6" above the frame regardless.

Rod Width Window frame width + 12" on each side.

  • Example: 40" window → 40 + 12 + 12 = 64" rod.

Panels (Rod width × 2) ÷ panel width = number of panels. Round up to nearest even number.

  • Example: 64" rod, 50" panels → 128 ÷ 50 = 2.56 → buy 4 panels.

Length Pick one and commit:

  • 1 inch above the floor → modern
  • Touching → classic
  • Pooling → dramatic

Never sill-length. Never hovering mid-wall.
